Richard Bebb is the author of the widely-acclaimed two-volume publication "Welsh Furniture 1250-1950: A Cultural History of Craftsmanship and Design" click here for details.

He was born in 1948 in Cwmparc in the Rhondda valley, and spent most of his childhood in Devon and Cornwall. In 1970, after graduating in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics, he returned to Wales with his wife Lynne, settling in Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire. There he began a career as an antiques dealer specializing in Welsh furniture.

He has been trading from his Kidwelly premises for the past 38 years and is recognised as the foremost authority on Welsh antique furniture, frequently lecturing on the subject across the country. He is a member of the B.A.D.A (British Antiques Dealers Association) and C.I.N.O.A (Confédération Internationale Des Négociants en Oeuvres d'Art) and adheres to a strict code of practice. As well as his frequent consultancy projects to both private and public collections, Richard (and his stock !) have made a number of television appearances.

Richard is a past double award winner at the prestigious B.A.C.A awards (British Antiques and Collectables Awards), one for the BEST ANTIQUES WEBSITE and the other for the BEST ANTIQUES SHOP IN WALES.

He is also the author of "Welsh Country Furniture" (Shire Publications).

Richard Bebb's fine collection is displayed in the appropriate setting of the Old Castle Mill, Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire, West Wales, and covers a wide range of items representing the whole spectrum of dressers, tables, longcase clocks, chests, coffers, cupboards and seating, which was produced in the various parts of Wales.

In his own premises Richard is able to display a far larger number of quality pieces than would be possible at any antiques fair, and the extensive showrooms feature many exceptional examples of the craftsmanship which is so typical of Welsh furniture, from individual chairs to large elaborate carved cupboards.

Particularly eye-catching are over 20 original dressers, each different in their design. Just as sought after though, and just as typical of Wales, are the many fine examples on show of the coffor bach - a miniature chest associated with marriages and often decorated in a highly individual manner.

He also has a variety of smaller items including quilts, domestic and decorative treen, samplers, boxes, ceramics, copper and brass, ironwork and pewter, slate ornaments, and pictures - always with the emphasis on items of Welsh interest.

Restoration is kept to a minimum on pieces to preserve the original condition and finish as far as possible. Any restoration is fully listed in our showrooms.

Over the past 18 years Richard has been helped with the day to day runnng of the shop by Allison Hurren, during which time she has built up a sound knowledge of Welsh antiques along with customer requirements.
