porcelain from Swansea has a well-deserved reputation for quality, but the enormous and sometimes variety of pottery which has also been produced in Wales is less well-known outside the country. The range included coarse red earthenwares characteristic of small family enterprises, through fine factory-produced and decorated creamwares which rivalled the best that Staffordshire could offer, to the lively hand-painted plates and bowls made at Llanelly at the end of the nineteenth century."
