Harley and Son of Shrewsbury 30-hour longcae clock with painted dial by Harley and Son of Shrewsbury. The figured-oak case with plum cross-banding is especially fine and well constructed. The great interest of this clock is the paper label inside the door giving the name and location of the craftsman and the precise date of manufacture:
"Thomas
Lewis, Cabinet Maker Llandinan is a small village in the Severn Valley, an area renowned for the quality of its 18th century furniture. The description "cabinet maker" was unusual for a furniture maker in this area, and perhaps Lewis trained or at least spent part of his working life in one of the market towns of the border area such as Welshpool, Oswestry or Shrewsbury. This piece is featured in: "Welsh Furniture 1250-1950"
