Welsh oak coffer of small proportions from mid-Wales, circa 1640. It has a triple-panelled top and attractive floral carving and the carved initials I D in the frieze, (these appear to have been changed from F D some time in the past). The frame and legs have channel moulding decorated with punchmarks and also includes a well-carved drawer in the base, an unusual feature for this regional group.
