Richard was born in 1948 in Cwmparc in the Rhondda valley, and spent most of his childhood in Devon and Cornwall. In 1970, after graduating in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics, he returned to Wales with his wife Lynne, settling in Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire. There he began a career as an antiques dealer specializing in Welsh furniture.

His fine collection is displayed in the appropriate
settingof the Old CastleMill, Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire,
West Wales, and covers a wide range ofitems representing the whole spectrum of dressers, tables, longcase clocks, chests, coffers, cupboards and seating, which was produced in the various parts of Wales.

In his own premises Richard is ableto display a far larger number of qualitypieces than would be possible at any antiques fair, and the extensive showrooms feature many exceptional examples of the craftsmanship which is so typical of Welsh furniture, from individual chairs to large elaborate carved cupboards.

.... ....

Particularly eye-catching are over 20 original dressers, each different in their design.
Just assoughtafter
though, and just as typical of Wales, are the many fine examples on show of the
coffor bach - a miniature chestassociated with marriages and often decorated in a
highly individual manner.

He also has a variety of smaller items including quilts, domestic and decorative treen, samplers, boxes, ceramics, copper and brass, ironwork and pewter, slate ornaments, and pictures - always with the emphasis on items of Welsh interest.

Restoration is kept to a minimum on pieces to preserve the original condition and finish
as far as possible.

Any restoration is fully listed in our showrooms.

Over the past 20 years Richard has been helped with the day to day runnng of the shop by Allison Hurren, during which time she has built up a sound knowledge of Welsh antiques along with customer requirements.
